The electric car market has been growing at a steady rate for years now. In fact, it's expected to be the biggest segment of new cars by 2030. That being said, there are still some popular models that require more attention than others because they're so different from their gasoline counterparts. Electric SUVs are one such category of vehicle that's gotten lots of attention over the past few years due to their great fuel economy and exciting design. We've put together this list of our favorite electric SUVs on the SoCal Market right now so you can see what makes them stand out from other options:

2023 Kia Niro EV

The 2023 Kia Niro EV is an up-and-coming hot electric car and is expected to offer about 253 miles of range. Kia’s slick design is noticeable in its snazzier interior. In just 45 minutes, its battery can charge from 10 to 80%. The starting price for this electric vehicle is $42,000 but is subject to change. So far, reviews are positive and excited about this electric vehicle.

The new Niro is 4,420 mm (174.0 in.) long, 1,825 mm (71.6 in.) wide, and 1,545 mm (60.8 in.) tall. Compared to the first-gen model, it is 65 mm (2.6 in) long, and 20 mm (0.8 in.) wider. Its wheelbase measures 2,720 mm (107.1 in.), marking an improvement of 20 mm (0.8 in.) from the first-gen model. The ground clearance is set at 6.3 inches.

The cargo space behind the seats is 475 liters (16.7 cu. ft.), 24 liters (0.5 cu. ft.) more than before. Including the volume from the frunk (20 liters/0.7 cu. ft.) and the space freed after dropping the rear seats, the total cargo space of 1,392 liters (49.1 cu. ft.) is available in the all-new Niro.

With the model change, Kia says that the Niro EV has a best-in-class passenger room. It claims to have 8 more cubic feet of passenger cabin room and 50 percent more cargo room than the Tesla Model 3. Complete specifications of the American model should be released in the coming months.

2022 Tesla Model S

With a starting price of $94,990, the Tesla Model S is more expensive than many other luxury electric cars on the market. The cost for the Plaid trim is $129,990, more than most competitors in its class. The Model S base model includes a 100 kWh lithium-ion battery pack and two electric motors. One motor drives the front wheels, and the other controls the back wheels. An additional electric motor is located at the rear axle of the Plaid trim. The standard Model can also go from 0 to 60 mph in 3.1 seconds.

The Model S has gotten some significant updates recently. The interior is fully redesigned with an aircraft-style steering yoke and three screens, including a massive 17-inch center screen. There’s also standard all-wheel drive and an available high-performance Plaid model with a tri-motor configuration and stunning performance with a claimed 0-60 mph time of 1.99 seconds.

Despite new competitors popping up in recent years, the Tesla Model S remains a top choice in premium electric sedans.

Ford F-150 Lightning

The Ford F-150 Lightning is one of the most reliable and affordable EVs coming soon to dealerships near you. It is priced at a low Ford F-150 Lightning and has approximately 230 miles of driving per charge. You can also charge this EV at home, which lasts for about 10 hours using the 230 miles. This electric truck can be used to tow with its 7,700 pounds towing capacity.

The Ford F-150 has been the best-selling vehicle in the United States for decades. It does exactly what full-size pickups are supposed to do, quite often better than its rivals. In many of those ways that matter, the 2023 F-150 Lightning is just like any other F-150.

It can tow up to 10,000 pounds, and carry a payload of more than 2,000 pounds. It comes with an all-wheel drive as standard. Except that it carries out its work without using any gasoline or diesel fuel at all.

The standard battery enables a range of 240 miles, up from last year’s 230. The extended-range battery can run for up to 320 miles on a single full charge, while touting more horsepower, too.

The rest of the Ford F-150 full-size truck lineup is reviewed separately.

The all-new GMC Hummer EV is a unique electric vehicle and is the world’s first all-electric super-truck. The EV comes in two designs with an infinity roof and modular windows. You can order the Pickup Truck or SUV version, starting at $108,700.

The Hummer EV uses GM's new Ultium battery-pack technology and boasts an estimated 329 miles of driving range per charge. In our testing, we observed 290 miles during an all-highway range test at 75 mph. The Hummer uses an 800-volt electrical architecture with 350-kilowatt fast-charging capability which GMC claims will add 100 miles of range in just 10 minutes. For buyers who don't have any DC fast charging stations nearby, the Hummer EV can also charge on regular public charging terminals or at home via a provided adapter, but charging times are significantly slower.
